Best. Title. Ever. After.

Best. Title. Ever. After.

White as snow, red as blood, black as ebony.

Let's talk about SNOW WHITE MUST DIE by German mystery writer Nele Neuhaus. It's the beginning of a spell-binding new contemporary mystery series, it's already huge international bestseller, and it has the most wicked title!

On a rainy November day police detectives Pia Kirchhoff and Oliver von Bodenstein are summoned to a mysterious traffic accident: A woman has fallen from a pedestrian bridge onto a car driving underneath. According to a witness, the woman may have been pushed. The investigation quickly turns into a small town witch hunt and Pia and Oliver will have to work fast to solve the case before anyone else dies.

"Again and again, Neuhaus inserts the old Grimm fairy tale refrain—'White as snow, red as blood, black as ebony'—that describes Snow White [...] to underscore the grimmest of human emotions: white for icily plotted revenge, red for raging jealousy, black for homicidal madness." -Publishers Weekly (starred review)

With more than three million copies already in print worldwide(!), your patrons will happily be the next victims of this exciting new series!

Hey There, Fellow UNSHELVED Readers!

Hey There, Fellow UNSHELVED Readers!

Welcome to the Macmillan Library blog! We're so glad you were intrigued enough by our goofy faces to click through and see what we're all about (if you didn't make it here via Unshelved, see the adorable ad that Bill made here).

unshelved ad

We'll kick off introductions by letting you in on the things we secretly love the most. Talia, for one, goes crazy for mini-cupcakes, costume fairy wings, and her two sassy cats. And Ali is a sucker for sweaters with foxes on them, puppies in top hats, and American macaroons.

When it comes to our reading preferences, Talia is all about the psychological thrillers—the gorier the better—whereas Ali opts for the epic sci-fi and fantasy stories—the more spaceships the better. Both of us are suckers for anything with a cute animal on the cover.

But that's not all we read. We're here specifically to chat with you about all of the great Adult books coming from Macmillan's publishers (including St. Martin’s Press, Henry Holt, Tor/Forge, Minotaur, Picador, and Farrar, Straus & Giroux) as well as our distributed publishers. Please feel free to ask us questions!

We encourage you to browse through our recent posts, head straight to our digital catalogs, or sign up for our Booklist webinar.

And for the Sherrilyn Kenyon fans who are quick on the draw:

We have 10 extra galleys of Sherrilyn Kenyon's TIME UNTIME, the latest book in the Dark-Hunter series. Just send an e-mail to Library-at-MacmillanUSA.com with your name, the library you work for, and the full mailing address where you would like to receive the galley.

If you're new, introduce yourselves in the comment section below or come chat with us on Twitter (@MacmillanLib)! We look forward to getting to know you.

All the best!

Starred Reviews for Buried Secrets

Starred Reviews for Buried Secrets

Both Booklist and Library Journal gave starred reviews to BURIED SECRETS, the spy thriller sequel to VANISHED. This is a creepy one folks, so Talia is all over it.

Nick Heller, private spy, is summoned by an old family friend. Hedge fund titan Marshall Marcus desperately needs Nick’s help. His teenaged daughter, Alexa, has just been kidnapped. Alexa, whom Nick has known since she was young, has been buried alive. She is held prisoner in an underground crypt, a camera trained on her, her suffering streaming live over the internet.

"A total wow of a read. [...] Great tension results from the knowledge that Marcus feels he has to keep his secret. About as perfectly plotted and suspenseful as possible, this is a tremendous high-wire act." -Booklist (starred review)

"Highly recommended not only for Finder fans but for mystery lovers fascinated with digital surveillance. Crisp, clipped chapters and numerous cliff-hangers propel the action at a breakneck pace. Finder’s outstanding writing and engrossing plot twists embellish a captivating summer read." -Library Journal (starred review)

Talia’s Pick: The Hypnotist

Talia’s Pick: The Hypnotist

If you've attended a book buzz, panel, or webinar featuring Talia this year, you were undoubtedly recommended THE HYPNOTIST by the pseudonymous couple, Lars Kepler. Booklist warned us of Talia's penchant for gore, so we all should have known this book would be right up her alley. I mean, come on, the cover is a pair of bloody scissors suspended over what looks like a pool of more blood. And just listen to this description:

In the frigid clime of Tumba, Sweden, a gruesome triple homicide attracts the interest of Detective Inspector Joona Linna, who demands to investigate the murders. The killer is still at large, and there’s only one surviving witness—the boy whose family was killed before his eyes. Whoever committed the crimes wanted this boy to die: he’s suffered more than one hundred knife wounds and lapsed into a state of shock. Desperate for information, Linna sees only one option: hypnotism. He enlists Dr. Erik Maria Bark to mesmerize the boy, hoping to discover the killer through his eyes.

It’s the sort of work that Bark has sworn he would never do again—ethically dubious and psychically scarring. When he breaks his promise and hypnotizes the victim, a long and terrifying chain of events begins to unfurl.

Publishers Weekly gave THE HYPNOTIST a starred review that reads, "The brutal slaying of gambling addict Anders Ek, his wife, and his younger daughter propels this outstanding thriller debut. [...] Readers will look forward to seeing more of Linna in what one hopes will be a long series."

Shelf Awareness calls it "extraordinarya heart-pounding, enthralling story of madness and malevolence." And "a riveting story of obsession and revenge."

Booklist says THE HYPNOTIST has "a cracking pace" and that it "belongs on every international crime fan’s reading list."

If you're looking for a pulse-raising, blood spattered, fast-paced thriller, then THE HYPNOTIST is for you.

Booklist’s Bookmakers Featured Talia in All Her… Gory

Booklist’s Bookmakers Featured Talia in All Her… Gory

Earlier today Booklist debuted their new publishing house-focused e-newsletter, Bookmakers, featuring everything Minotaur. They interviewed Andrew Martin, listed upcoming titles, spotlighted Minotaur authors, aaand asked Talia for recommended books!

The editor's note on "Seeing Red: Talia's Favorite Gory Bits" reads,

"Sure, if you read Talia’s gory favorites, you’ll find the occasional spleen enjoying the open air rather than resting quietly wherever it belongs inside our bodies, but beyond that, you’ll also find a bunch of richly satisfying stories peopled by multidimensional characters who will make you think as much as they make you retch."
