You can download the full title list from all publishers here. (Warning! The excel file downloads immediately.)

All of our buzzed books are shown above, but here are a few snippets from Talia's buzz to tempt you to tune in next time:

"What do
Edith Wharton, Daphne du Maurier, Jane Austen, "Upstairs, Downstairs," and
People magazine have in common? THE AMERICAN HEIRESS has been compared to all
of them." On THE AMERICAN HEIRESS

"A dead mother. An abusive father. A plot to escape. A sister has been left behind!" On THE SISTERS

"I have to take a second to thank Julia for writing some steamy moments between Reverend Claire and Chief of Police Russ. What could be better?" On ONE WAS A SOLDIER

"If you
have a puppy, had a puppy, or have puppy-owning friends, you must start a
puppy book club just to read this book." On THE PUPPY DIARIES

"Are we
looking at those kittens? Hello? Kittens anyone?!" On BEST FRIENDS, OCCASIONAL ENEMIES

Check out our dedicated book club website, Reading Group Gold, for more recommendations.

[UPDATE] Our friends over at Booklist have posted all of the slides from the presentation for you here: http://www.BooklistOnline.com/media/webinars/materials/Book_Group_Buzzing.pdf. And they have posted the full audio-visual presentation, which you can watch here.

Monday Fun Day! (7/25/2011 Edition)

Monday Fun Day! (7/25/2011 Edition)

It's Monday! Monday! Monday!

And we have galleys to send you! Patti Callahan Henry has written yet another insightful exploration of the human heart, COMING UP FOR AIR

UPDATE: We have sent out all of our COMING UP FOR AIR galleys. If you got one, enjoy!

Ellie’s world turns upside down after her controlling mother passes away and she sees her ex-boyfriend, Hutch, at the funeral. Ellie learns that he is in charge of a documentary that involved her mother before her death. He wants answers to questions that Ellie’s not sure she can face, until, when going through her mother’s things, she discovers a hidden diary – and a window onto stories buried long ago.

COMING UP FOR AIR will be available September 2011 from St. Martin's Press and is featured on the August 2011 Indie Next List. If you would like an advanced copy of COMING UP FOR AIR send your name, library, and full mailing address to Library @ MacmillanUSA.com.

Tomorrow Talia will be giving shout-outs to some hot new titles in a Booklist buzz webinar. Join us, Random House, and HarperCollins for an hour of library-specific recommendations! Sign up here.

Last week, many of our buddies over at Tor were singularly focused on San Diego Comic Con. If you're following them on Twitter you've undoubtedly seen an influx in geektastic tweets about panels, interviews, and costume sightings. I am, admittedly, quite jealous.

And finally, a head's up: for the rest of this week we'll be running blog posts on great books for reluctant readers of the teenage male variety. Tune in and tell us your favorites, too!

BEA 2011 Recap

BEA 2011 Recap

Sorry for the late post, everyone!

I got a little caught up celebrating over my Publishers Weekly article that ran this morning and lost track of time. Okay, okay; I also had to watch this ridiculously cute cat video that people have been sending around the office. But now I'm really getting down to business, so I thought I would post a super quick recap of our BEA 2011 events.

Monday night we kicked off the conference with the Annual BookExpo America Librarians Dinner, presented by AAP and Library Journal. Nancy Pearl hosted the event with some great authors including, Dava Sobel, author of A MORE PERFECT HEAVEN. Oh, and the dessert was divine!

Tuesday we started off with The Great Readalike. If You Like This…You’ll LOVE That! in which a few of our favorite librarians sounded off about which books you might have missed in a few popular categories. If you want a taste, Lesa posted her readalikes on her blog! Then there was Back to Basics. Why Home Economics Books are the New Retro Chic, a fun panel introducing some great DIY topics to share with your crafty patrons. The BEA Librarians Author Lunch hosted by Nora Rawlinson of EarlyWord was overflowing with very excited (and very hungry!) librarians. We ran out of chairs fast, but thankfully everyone was fed. During the lunch Tom Perrotta, author of THE LEFTOVERS, told stories about his library experiences alongside other great speakers such as Chuck Palahniuk, David Baldacci, and more. Talia finished up the day giving book recommendations at the AAP Annual Librarians Book Buzz and a panel on Hot Fall Book Club Titles. Curious what she recommended? To name a few:

THE LETOVERS (Perrotta)
GLOW (Ryan)
THE SISTERS (Jensen)
THE AMERICAN HEIRESS (Goodwin)
THE HYPNOTIST (Kepler)
KILLED AT THE WHIM OF A HAT (Cotterill)
FREEDOM (Franzen)
BY NIGHTFALL (Cunningham)
THE MARRIAGE PLOT (Eugenides)
BEST FRIENDS, OCCASIONAL ENEMIES (Scottoline & Serritella)

Wednesday we sat in on a few informative panels discussing the future of collection development considering financial cutbacks, technological transition, and the ever-changing role of the librarian. Hearing about how these changes are tangibly taking shape in libraries straight from the mouths of librarians is invaluable to us and makes conferences like BEA entirely worthwhile. We finished up our conference at the 3rd Annual Librarian Shout ‘n Share which was a riot! Talia and I both added a few books to our TBR piles, were serenated with a little BROETRY, and learned a valuable lesson: never give librarians squeaky horns!
