Caplan and Mina weren’t always best friends, but the day they’re paired up as reading partners in third grade changed everything. Soon, they’re lying on Mina’s bedroom floor, reading Harry Potter and bonding over their shared fatherlessness. Now, it’s the last semester of senior year, and they’ve been attached at the hip ever since. Caplan is the most popular boy in the school, and Mina is quiet and bookish—their friendship defies all the high school social rules, but it endures nevertheless. When Mina catches the eye of Caplan’s friend Quinn and he asks her out, the status quo is further disrupted, and Mina is thrust into a version of her life she never could have imagined for herself. Instead of living in Caplan’s shadow, she’s hanging out with the popular kids, becoming friends with her frenemy (and Caplan’s girlfriend), Hollis, and breaking out of the shell that she’s spent all of high school perfecting. But something in Caplan is changing too, and he’s suddenly seeing Mina in a different light. Before the school year comes to a close, secrets will be revealed, relationships will change, and decisions for the future will be made, making for a truly unforgettable senior year.

Reading this book transported me right back to those final weeks of high school, when spirits and nostalgia are at an all-time high and it feels like the possibilities are endless. Mina and Caplan’s friendship shouldn’t make sense, but it does, and they complement each other perfectly. Not to mention Quinn and Hollis, who—while side characters—are so fully realized and had many of my favorite moments in the story. Daisy Garrison’s writing is fresh and authentic, and she’s created a beautiful, funny, heartwarming story about a journey of self-discovery and the power of friendship. If you’re looking for a book that feels like watching all of your favorite classic teen rom-com movies like She’s All That, 10 Things I Hate About You, and Pretty in Pink (but updated for today’s teens), SIX MORE MONTHS OF JUNE should be your next read.

Happy reading!
