Hazel “Haze” Lejeune is a lifelong fan of slasher films. But even better than watching one would be getting to star in one. So when Haze gets the call of a lifetime that she’s been cast as the final girl in a low-budget slasher film, she’s ecstatic. She makes the trip to Pine Springs, Louisiana, where filming will take place. Never mind the fact that Pine Springs is also where Haze’s father, the notorious Pine Springs Slasher, murdered five high school students fifteen years ago. As the film begins shooting, Haze starts to notice references to her father’s crimes in the script. And when suspicious accidents lead to a cast member’s murder . . . and then another, and another, Haze must figure out who the murderer is before she becomes a real life final girl.
I’ve said this since her first book, but I maintain that Olivia Worley knows how to write a thriller. Her third YA has what has become her signature shocking twists and fast-paced narrative, but this time it’s blended with a horror story that kept my heart pounding. FINAL CUT is a thrill ride of a book, with an unsettling plot that seamlessly weaves together the nail-biting suspense of a classic thriller with the visceral, blood-chilling terror of a slasher film. I loved following along as Haze tries to unmask the murderer and unravel the secrets of Pine Springs. Each twist took me by surprise, from the first page up until the final, shocking reveal. This eerie tale is a must-read for fans of Scream, THE FINAL GIRL SUPPORT GROUP, or THE DISAPPEARANCE OF RACHEL PRICE, or anyone looking for a unique and chilling take on the slasher genre.
Happy reading!
