Orie’s life is a bit of a mess. She just graduated from college with no plan whatsoever, she’s stuck in a long-term relationship with a great guy she’s not in love with, and her sister / business partner doesn’t feel like she’s doing her part to keep their shared AcroYoga account going. On a whim, Orie decides to apply to be on Survivor. When she’s accepted, she breaks up with Wes, hops on a plane, and finds herself stranded on an island in Fiji. Except she’s not alone. When she takes off her blindfold, she’s shocked to find that she’s accompanied by none other than Remy Orlando Lasorsa, her high school crush, and they are literally attached at the hip by a length of rope. They’re on a Survivor spin-off show and part of a 10 person cast who must compete in challenges, while tethered, while vying for romantic attention, in the wilderness, for a chance at a million dollars and love. Plus, Orie now has to navigate her growing feelings for her one that got away, in addition to forging new alliances and relationships.

Filled with the hijinks, romance, and adventure of fan favorite reality TV shows like Survivor and The Bachelor, as well as top notch humor and drama, this latest from Christine Riccio had me hooked from the beginning. As a long-time Survivor fan myself, I loved the behind-the-scenes tidbits and the relationships between the castaways, and the addition of the dating show aspect was a fun twist. Orie does a lot of growing up on the island, and continues to grow after returning home, and I was rooting for her to succeed the whole time (both in the game and in life). While this is an obvious choice for reality TV fans, you definitely do not need to have background knowledge of the shows to enjoy it. I’d recommend this to anyone looking for a hilarious and entertaining romantic comedy, as well as anyone looking for a coming-of-age story where the main character is a little bit older.

Happy reading!
