The world Snow White knew when she fell asleep is gone. Her glass coffin has shattered and she is free from her endless slumber, but her once-lush kingdom is changed. The trees are rotting, the animals have mutated, and the land is barren. Everything has been poisoned by the Blight. Even the cabin she used to share with her seven friends—once filled with joy and food and peace—is now filled to the brim with deadly weapons. The only way to fix it is to become Seasonkeeper—the one person bound to Nature and able to use their power for the good of the land—but the evil queen’s evil daughter, Iliana, has already assumed the role. Iliana may be wicked, but her acid-green eyes and blood red lips are captivating and Snow is haunted by her face everywhere she looks. If Snow wants to return her kingdom to its former glory, she’ll have to kill Iliana and step into the position that is rightfully hers, but the path to becoming Seasonkeeper is more treacherous than she ever could have imagined, and Iliana will stop at nothing to capture both the powerful magic and Snow’s heart.
Andrea Hannah’s Snow White retelling is darkly enchanting, with wild magic, untamed wilderness, and slow-burn sapphic yearning. Snow’s journey through the forest is a dangerous one as she encounters terrifying and deadly creatures around every corner, but the friendships she makes along the way are beautiful and heartfelt. The atmospheric and immersive writing had me completely spellbound, and I really enjoyed the feminist twists to the classic tale. I’d hand this to fans of GIRLS MADE OF SNOW AND GLASS by Melissa Bashardoust and A FAR WILDER MAGIC by Allison Saft.
“Using richly descriptive prose, Hannah reimagines the story of Snow White in a labyrinthine high-fantasy world of dark magic, greed, and suppressed sapphic longing.”

“A dark, creepy, and complex fairy-tale retelling.” —Kirkus Reviews
