Pepper and Jack (yes, like the cheese) have been quiet rivals since Pepper moved to NYC to attend Jack’s fancy private school. Pepper is top of her class and Jack is the class clown. Pepper is the swim team captain and Jack is a dive team star. Pepper’s family owns Big League Burger, a massive chain, and Jack’s family owns Girl Cheesing, the local deli. Pepper secretly runs the Big League Burger Twitter account and Jack occasionally tweets back from the Girl Cheesing account.

When Girl Cheesing accuses Big League Burger of stealing their top-secret grilled cheese recipe, the two become embroiled (har har) in an all-out Twitter war. But while Pepper and Jack are fighting online, they’re also falling in love via an anonymous app that Jack created. When the Twitter feud goes viral, things get way too personal and the tweets turn mean, but that doesn’t stop the world from shipping the pair. (How can you resist when their ship name is PepperJack??) Will their budding IRL friendship & virtual romance survive the fallout?

I’ve always dreamed of being Kathleen Kelly from You’ve Got Mail, and I had very high expectations for this contemporary retelling. And I know this might be a controversial statement, but TWEET CUTE is even better than the 90s classic it’s based on. It’s just SO FREAKING CUTE! But wait! There’s more! Witty banter? Check! Authentically complicated family dynamics? Check! Just the right amount of teenage angst? Check! Delicious descriptions of every baked good you could ever imagine? Double check!

This sweet debut is the very definition of “rom-com” and is a delight to read. It’s PERFECT for fans of You’ve Got Mail (obv), but also those who enjoyed TO ALL THE BOYS I’VE LOVED BEFORE by Jenny Han or THE WAY YOU MAKE ME FEEL by Maureen Goo, as well as anyone who is craving a heartfelt, hilarious, and slightly awkward story of first love and sassy tweets.

Happy reading!
<3 Emily
