At the end of THE HAZEL WOOD, (SPOILER ALERT) our protagonist Alice escaped the magical and haunted world of the Hinterland, where she had been trapped as a fairy tale character. Now, she and her motley crew of ex-fairy tale-ers are roaming New York City trying to live normal lives. But, someone–or something–is stalking and killing the Hinterland survivors, forcing Alice to rekindle her magic as she embarks on a dangerous hunt for the killer. And her maybe-more-than-just-a-friend, Finch, is stuck in the dying Hinterland, doing everything he can to get back to NYC and to Alice.

This terrifying follow-up to THE HAZEL WOOD had me on the edge of my seat. I loved every minute of Albert’s classic fairy tale reimagining crossed with a murder mystery / thriller. Albert’s writing is incredibly lush and imaginative, taking the reader on an enchanting journey from New York to the Hinterland and back again. And I LOVED getting more of Finch in this book.

THE NIGHT COUNTRY is dark, creepy, super twisty, and perfect for this time of year (or any time of year)! Hand this sequel to fans of Stephanie Garber’s Caraval series or Lev Grossman’s The Magicians series, as well as anyone–adult or teen–who believes in the power of a good story.

Happy reading!
