Big gay wedding cover

We are so thrilled to be sharing an author letter from the hilarious and irreverent Byron Lane AND sweepstakes for your chance to win an ARC of this delightful story of a lovable cast of misfits, a southern town, and a BIG GAY WEDDING.

“Lane’s latest (after A STAR IS BORED, 2020) is even more chaotic than his debut—in a good way—with a multitude of wild yet fully fleshed out characters and a plot that never lets up. Hilarious moments blend perfectly with genuine emotional arcs, especially that of Chrissy and her journey to fully understand what unconditional love means.”–Booklist

Dear librarian,

You were my best friend in high school. I grew up in rural Louisiana and attended a new school for my junior and senior years. It was hard to fit-in with the friend groups that had known each other since preschool. I was nerdy and not into school sports. I dreaded lunch and recess because I had no one to talk to. The library became my safe place. I’d visit during every break, getting recommendations from the librarian and escaping into reading. Librarians saved me.

To this day, supporting libraries is a top priority. My husband, fellow author Steven Rowley, and I recently hosted a fundraiser in our hometown for the Palm Springs Library Foundation.

Prior to being a writer, I was assistant to Carrie Fisher. I traveled with her on tours, handing her pens to sign her books or fetching her a Coke Zero or two. I wondered if one day my dream could come true and I could see my book in stores and libraries. With my debut novel, A STAR IS BORED, I felt the love. And I hope I can make you proud again with my latest novel, BIG GAY WEDDING.

I married Steven in the thick of Covid and fresh from undergoing chemo for testicular cancer. For those reasons, we had a little gay wedding. But our love inspired BIG GAY WEDDING, along with my experience growing up in the south. BIG GAY WEDDING is about a conservative mother who runs a rescue ranch for misfit animals in a small town, clashing with her gay son who wants to have his wedding on the family farm. At its heart, it’s about the love between mother and son, about a mother “coming out” as supporting her gay son’s marriage.

Thank you for all you give the world, with every recommendation and every hour dedicated to the gift of reading.

Sincerely,

Byron Lane

  1. This is wonderful, thank you for your kind words to all of us in libraries. I pray your cancer is gone entirely and that you and your husband have a long, beautiful life. May you be eternally blessed as we are to have patrons and writers like you grace our lives.
