Set in a dual timeline, THE LOVE ELIXIR OF AUGUSTA STERN by Lynda Cohen Loigman is not just a page-turner, but a remedy for the soul, sprinkled with a touch of magic, a dash of heartbreak, and plenty of laughter.

In 1987, Augusta Stern finally retires from her position as a pharmacist on the cusp of her 80th birthday, though her paperwork says she is 10 years younger. Her niece Jackie has found a wonderful retirement community for her in Florida at Rallentando Springs, but when she gets there she runs right into Irving Rivkin–the once youthful delivery boy who shattered her heart sixty years ago.

As a teenager in 1920’s Brooklyn, Augusta works in her father’s pharmacy, learning the ropes of healing ailments with practicality and precision. However, her unconventional great aunt Esther’s arrival brings a whirlwind of mystique, introducing Augusta to a world of unconventional potions and remedies that defy logic.

While Augusta is trying to balance her loyalty to her father and fascination with Esther’s allure, she is also falling in love with young Irving. An impulsive decision to embrace Esther’s most potent elixir leads to unforeseen consequences, casting shadows over Augusta’s path for decades to come.

This story is told in a beautifully lyrical fashion and kept a smile on my face the whole read. With a whole cast of characters to love, I found myself completely immersed in Augusta’s world. Entranced by her unwavering dedication to medicine and absorbed in the mystery of why Irving left so long ago, I could not put this book down.

If you’re craving a story that mixes nostalgia, romance, and a touch of the unexpected, grab this book. THE LOVE ELIXIR OF AUGUSTA STERN is a must-read for anyone who believes in the enduring magic of second chances and a bit of mystery.

“The happiest I have felt in years inside the world of a book.” —Natalie Jenner, #1 nationally bestselling author of The Jane Austen Society

“Mix equal parts humor, heart, and hope and you’ll get The Love Elixir of Augusta Stern, a sparkling ode to second chances. I adored Augusta on both of the book’s timelines, delighting in both her razor-sharp wit as a present-day Floridian retiree and her unrelenting curiosity as a grieving motherless child, in Brooklyn, whose life is upended by an aunt who appears to have spiritual healing powers. Lynda Cohen Loigman’s latest is a must-read that will leave you believing in the power of believing.” —Shelby Van Pelt, New York Times bestselling author of Remarkably Bright Creatures
