New York Times bestselling author TJ Klune takes readers back to Nova City with Nick, Seth, Gibby, and Jazz—the friend group that all readers wish they could be a part of.

[warning: book 2 spoilers ahead!]
In book 2, FLASH FIRE, we were left on the edge of our seats with more than one cliffhanger as Nick learns he, too, has powers, and that Jennifer Bell, Nick’s mother, has returned…from the dead?

All seems right in the world: Nick is finally an Extraordinary, Jazz and Gibby get to be a part of the fight for justice and protection, Seth is undeniably the best boyfriend and superqueero partner in crime ever, and Nick’s mom is there to help him learn how to control his telekinesis without bringing even more disaster to Nova City. It all seems too good to be true…and it is. But, this time, it’s not all reporter Rebecca Firestone’s fault.

Nick starts hearing strange voices in his head, his mother is acting not quite like herself, and the threat of Owen Burke’s return is casting a dark shadow over Nick and his friends. With college on the horizon, Nick is ready for some smooth sailing in life, and romantic next steps with Seth, but when the new mayor and villains with superpowers are threatening your life and the future of Extraordinaries, some things have to take a backseat to all the action. Creating some unlikely alliances and learning who to trust along the way, Nick, Seth, Gibby, Jazz, and the Dad Squad are here to save Nova City once again.

TJ Klune’s conclusion to the Extraordinaries trilogy will leave readers wanting more of the lovable characters but completely satisfied with how everything was tied together at the same time. This contemporary coming-of-age superqueero story is utterly ridiculous, yet down to earth. With the most plot twists of the three books, HEAT WAVE is a love letter to fandom while also dealing with real-life current events. Both laugh-out-loud funny, and totally heartwarming, HEAT WAVE is a hug in book form. Nick and Seth’s relationship will have readers rooting for them the whole way through, along with all of their friendships and families as they figure out first love, growing up, finding themselves, and coming up with the perfect catchphrase.

“The last installment of the Extraordinaries trilogy is everything a devoted fan could want: dramatic, action-packed, sentimental, and steamy . . . A touching, utterly satisfying conclusion.” —Kirkus Reviews

Happy reading!
