Hello librarians! This is Amanda Rountree, genre whisperer extraordinaire!
As a long-time lover of genre fiction of all kinds–everything from the awe-inspiring world-building and magic of fantasy, to the heart-warming happy endings of romance, to the breathtaking terror of horror, to the reality-stretching imagination of science fiction–my new Genre For All series will have you covered!
In addition to reading recommendations (including from surprise guests), exclusive content (chapter excerpts, original essays, guest posts, author interviews) and giveaways, Genre For All will be a great resource for all things GENRE. (Want to contribute? Sign up here.)
And now, because I just can’t help myself, here are a few of my favorites:
GIDEON THE NINTH by Tamsyn Muir
This debut received four starred reviews and rocked the worlds of readers everywhere. It’s got humor, heart, and the kind of creative action that makes you hold your breath. Lesbian. Necromancers. In space. HELLO! (Plus, the sequel, HARROW THE NINTH, is available to download on Edelweiss now.)
THE WAY OF KINGS by Brandon Sanderson
The true backbone of any fantasy collection. Brandon Sanderson is a master of action and emotion, with fully realized worlds replete with history, religion, and politics. His are the kind of books that deserve multiple readings, and you’ll notice something new every time. (And don’t miss Book 4, RHYTHM OF WAR, coming this Fall!)
HOW TO LOVE A DUKE IN TEN DAYS by Kerrigan Byrne
I love the will-they-or-won’t-they back and forth and snappy dialog of a good historical romance, and if you do too, Kerrigan Byrne is for you. This is the first book in a new series, but her Victorian Rebels series is also amazing.
A HEAD FULL OF GHOSTS by Paul Tremblay
Y’all, this is THE most terrifying thing you will ever read. Is it possession or schizophrenia? Is memory reliable? Dive in, and I dare you to put it down before you turn the last page.
