You Know Her, You Love Her: Mary Kay Andrews

Mary Kay Andrews has been providing the perfect beach read for more than 20 books now, and that doesn’t stop with her latest–and May LibraryReads pickSUNSET BEACH.

Drue Campbell’s life and career have recently been derailed. The only thing she has left is the house her mother left her: a ramshackle beach bungalow with a missing roof in the once-sleepy town of Sunset Beach, which is rapidly becoming a hot spot for the rich and well-heeled, who are none too pleased about the shabby eyesore in their perfect neighborhood.

“In between sweet and steamy love scenes, RED, WHITE & ROYAL BLUE allows readers to imagine a world where coming out involves no self-loathing; where fan fiction and activist Twitter do actual good; and a diverse, liberal White House wins elections.”–Booklist, starred review

Obama ♥s FACTFULNESS & GMA’s End-Of-Summer Reading List

President Barack Obama announced his Summer Reading picks on Facebook, including our own Bill Gates-approved pick: “FACTFULNESS by Hans Rosling, an outstanding international public health expert, is a hopeful book about the potential for human progress when we work off facts rather than our inherent biases.”
“Good Morning America” also shared a roundup of “some of the buzziest books to pick up before Labor Day,” (along with an exclusive message from the author) including these five Macmillan titles:

EARLY WORK by Andrew Martin
“In EARLY WORK, I was trying to capture the recklessness of the last period of one’s youth, that feeling, true or not, that big decisions must be made before it’s too late. The novel follows a love affair between two writers that takes place over the course of a summer, and I’ve been told by readers that there are enough good times and bad decisions to fill a week on the beach, especially if interspersed with some good swims and cocktails and dog walks. The people in the book aren’t exactly role models, but so few of the people I know and love are! I hope readers will recognize some version of their past (or current!) selves in these characters, with a mixture of tenderness and, perhaps, regret,” Martin said.

HOW TO WALK AWAY by Katherine Center
Also available in audio
“I’m so excited for fans to read HOW TO WALK AWAY because summer is all about connecting with the good things in life — having adventures (or dreaming about them!), making time to see friends and family, soaking up the sunshine — and this is a story about people trying to do that, too,” Center said. “It’s a big-hearted, laugh-and-cry book about finding joy however you can, and I hope it’ll take you on a journey that’s much like the best vacations: satisfying and inspiring even long after summer’s gone.” readmoreremove

A gin and tonic for the soul.” — Kirkus Reviews

THE HIGH TIDE CLUB by Mary Kay Andrews
Also available in audio
99-year-old heiress Josephine Bettendorf Warrick hires single-mom lawyer Brooke Trapnell to protect her 20,000-acre barrier island home from developers and to bring together the descendants of her best friends, a spirited bunch who dubbed themselves the High Tide Club. “[A] compelling novel about the people and places that shape a life and the secrets that create ripples for generations.
