Day’s YA – TEEN TRAILBLAZERS

Hey, YA librarians!

There’s been no shortage of amazing women in the news lately—this pick is in honor of them and others all over the world who have inspired change.

TEEN TRAILBLAZERS: 30 Fearless Girls Who Changed the World Before They Were 20 by Jennifer Calvert, illustrated by Vesna Asanovic

Available October 2, 2018 from Castle Point Books

TEEN TRAILBLAZERS is a collection of profiles of badass young women who effected change while they were teenagers. From Cleopatra to Emma Gonzalez, the courageous young ladies showcased are a diverse cast from the past and present. Vesna Asanovic’s illustrations add vibrancy to the pages, featuring beautiful, full-page portraits of each of the 30 teens included.

My favorite trailblazers include Jackie Mitchell, the first woman signed to minor-league baseball (at only seventeen-years-old, she struck out Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig); Barbara Johns, at sixteen was a key player in ending segregation in schools; and Mary Shelley, who wrote Frankenstein when she was nineteen and pretty much invented sci-fi. The teens featured in these pages are inspirational role models for anyone at any age and prove that anyone can be a revolutionary. readmoreremove
