Holiday Reads

We’re almost halfway through December and looking forward to the holiday break where we can curl up with a mug of hot cocoa and one of these Christmas books:

THE CHRISTMAS TOWN by Donna VanLiere
When twenty-year-old Lauren Gabriel witnesses a hit-and-run accident, she suddenly finds herself being pulled into the town of Grandon. Could this town and its people be the home she has always longed for? “With eight other yuletide novels under her belt, VanLiere is an expert at tugging heartstrings, and this sincere tearjerker delivers.” — Library Journal

CHRISTMAS IN PARIS by Anita Hughes
“After a bride calls off her Christmas wedding days before the ceremony, she comforts herself by taking the planned honeymoon in Paris, then finds herself navigating romance with the help of a fortuneteller and the jilted groom in the suite next door. Hughes bring her signature combination of haute couture and high-society romance to Paris, adding a touch of magic and allowing us to live vicariously through Isabel as she falls in love in the most glamorous city in the world…. A charming modern-day fairy-tale romance.” — Kirkus Reviews

THE GIFT OF A LIFETIME by Melissa Hill
Beth Harper has a passion for movies and shoes, so when she receives an anonymous gift leading her on a movie trivia scavenger hunt across NYC, she wonders if it’s a surprise from her boyfriend, Danny, or from her attractive co-worker, Ryan. “Readers will get in the holiday spirit as Hill’s sentimental story brings them to various New York landmarks and beloved scenes from famous movies. A big twist near the end will come as a major surprise, deepening the tale’s poignancy.” — Library Journal

CHRISTMAS JOY by Nancy Naigle
Joy Holbrook is all work and no play, but she’s forced to take a leave of absence from her job to take care of her Aunt Ruby back in Crystal Falls. When she’s forced to work with Aunt Ruby’s neighbor, Ben Andrews, to win the annual Christmas Home Tour, Joy finds her career-focused heart dreaming of a family. “This is a sweet, Hallmark-movie-style story of a woman figuring out what she really wants with the help of a hunk, a stray kid, and enough decorations for several Pinterest boards. Steer fans of inspirational fiction toward this one as well.” — Booklist

A SHOE ADDICT’S CHRISTMAS by Beth Harbison
From the author of the beloved bestseller SHOE ADDICTS ANONYMOUS comes the story of a woman who finds herself locked in a department store on Christmas Eve and must spend the entire night facing several “ghosts” of Christmases past, present, and future…all while surrounded by Manolo Blahniks, Jimmy Choos, Chanel slippers, and Prada riding boots. “A fun and shoe-filled modern take on A Christmas Carol from the best-selling Harbison for all readers.” — Library Journal readmoreremove

Holiday Reads

Welcome to Wednesday!
It is my pleasure to share with you Macmillan’s many wonderful holiday-themed titles.
Though I am a Festival of Lights (aka Hanukkah) kinda gal, Christmas is my favorite time of year.  I had my first taste of Eggnog (it may have been spiked!) during Thanksgiving and I am hooked! And is there anything better, my dear librarians, than Peppermint Bark? Marathon viewings of ELF and lots of presents — that’s how we celebrate at the Sherer household.

Holiday Cheer!

Christmas is only one week away! Why not take some "me" time and curl up with a mug of hot cocoa and one of these Christmas books:

THE DOGS OF CHRISTMAS by W. Bruce Cameron
OY THAT FACE!!
We may prefer felines over here, but just try to resist those sweet puppy-dog eyes!
The story is a sweet one too: a guy falls for a gal at the animal shelter AND the litter of Christmas puppies he's fostering. Awwwwww! And as our brilliant friend Annie Mazes from HarperCollins’ Library Lovefest says: totes adorbs!!

ON STRIKE FOR CHRISTMAS by Sheila Roberts
Joy and Laura and the rest of their knitting group decide to go on a Christmas strike-no wrapping, shopping, cooking, or decorating for them! But as Christmas Day approaches, the ladies and their husbands confront larger issues in their marriages and discover that a little holiday magic is exactly what they need to come together.

CHRISTMAS BLISS by Mary Kay Andrews
Savannah antique dealer Weezie Foley is doubly distracted by her upcoming Christmas wedding to her longtime love, chef Daniel Stipanek and by the fact that her best friend and maid-of-honor BeBe Loudermilk is due to give birth any day—and is still adamantly refusing to marry her live-in-love Harry.

CHRISTMAS KEEPSAKES by Donna VanLiere
This collection of two bestselling books in one includes THE CHRISTMAS SHOES and THE CHRISTMAS BLESSING. Young Nathan Andrews lost his mother to cancer as a child, and dreams of being a doctor. Later, as a medical student in his third year, Nathan continues to learn lessons about faith, blessings, and sacrifice.
