Day’s YA – FANGIRL

Happy Thursday, YA folks!

When Cath and her twin sister, Wren, were younger, they were both diehard Simon Snow fans. They read the books, attended the premieres, covered the walls of their shared room with Simon Snow posters, and they wrote fanfiction. Now that they’re heading to college, Wren has left that part of her life behind, but not Cath. Cath has decorated her dorm room with posters and figurines and still spends every possible minute writing fanfiction for her 35,000 readers. Wren has also decided that living with her twin isn’t an option, and Cath is now stuck with an older and more outgoing roommate. Making matters worse, Cath is dealing with boys she doesn’t understand, professors who don’t understand her, and a father she can’t seem to stop worrying about. Although her fanfic has saved her in the past, now Cath may be forced to choose between her favorite fantastical world and the real, living people right in front of her. readmoreremove

The Lover’s Dictionary on KCRW’s Bookworm

YA author, David Levithan, made his adult fiction debut with The Lover's Dictionary, an unconventional narrative about a modern relationship told through emotionally rich dictionary entries such as this:

indelibleadj.  That first night, you took your finger and pointed to the top of my head, then traced a line between my eyes, down my nose, over my lips, down my neck, to the center of my chest. It was so surprising, I knew I would never mimic it. That one gesture would be yours forever.

Last week, David had an interview with Michael Silverblatt on KCRW's Bookworm! Grab your headphones to hear David read a few excerpts and discuss his thoughts on The Lover's Dictionary. Listen below or click here.
